Since the airboat loading site is located West of the Serengeti it presents some interesting travel opportunities.  The Kirumi Bridge over the Mara River (the airboats loading site) is aprox. 1 hours drive North from the Western Gate of Serengeti National Park and over good tarred (paved) road.  Most tourists never get the chance to see Lake Victoria (the second largest fresh water lake in the world and much maligned by the common press). It IS something to see. It has practically no tourist traffic and some of the best fishing in the world. Have you heard of the "Giant Lion Perch" also known as the Nile perch? They can weigh several hundred pounds and put up a great fight for sport fishing. OR- Have you heard of what we like to call the phenomenon of the "Jesus Christ or walk-on-water bird of Mara Bay" (like a snowy egret)? They show up at dusk and seem to be walking in the hundreds "miraculously "on the surface of the water and dotting the bay.

The Mara River Airboat's loading site is located outside of National Park boundaries and thus one does not have the extra expense of Park fees.

One could drive out the western arm of the Serengeti or drive down from Kenya. Musoma, Tanzania (the closest large city) has an airport that is serviced several days per week by Precision Air from Killimanjaro Airport or Dar es Salaam. Mwanza, Tanzania (the second largest city in all of Tanzania and only several hours drive on good tarred (paved) road) also has an airport. Busses service the eastern side of the lake from Nairobi in Kenya to Mwanza in Tanzania and beyond for the independent traveler or student.

The easiest way to make arrangements to get to the airboat loading site is to have your travel or tour company include it as part of your safari and have them bring you in the vehicle that you will use for the rest of your tour.
