Airboat Tours
 
We will be providing several airboat tours of the Mara River Wetlands each day -7 days per week (weather permitting). We have 3 standard tours. Our shortest tour is a 45 minute introduction to the Mara Wetlands and it costs $75 USD per person. We take a maximum of 14 guests and 2 crew members on our airboat. We have a minimum requirement of 4 guests on our standard airboat tours. If you have less than this please call ahead and we can often combine groups to make the minimum. We also give a standard 1 ½ hour tour that costs $125 USD and our best tour is 3 hours long and costs just $200 USD per person. With sufficient lead time we could custom build your expedition to any length. A custom tour of over 3 hours would require a minimum of 7 passengers. On our longer tours we can get deeper into the wetlands and up the Mara into less explored territory.
 

Maramanjaro Climb

The climb up “Maramanjaro” –a mountain near our loading site- is not for the faint of heart. It is a strenuous hike up approximately 700 vertical feet. From the overlook sites near the top you get spectacular views of the Mara River Wetlands, the Kirumi Bridge over the Mara River, the delta of the Mara into Mara Bay and Lake Victoria in the distance. The hike up and down lasts approximately 3 hours and cost $50 USD per person. We will provide a guide and one porter for each 3 climbers and bottled water. If given sufficient lead time we can also provide food for refreshment at the top for an additional fee (call ahead for costs).


The Fishing Culture on the Mara- A Lecture Study

In this lecture a local fisherman will explain how he and his tribe fish the waters of the Mara River. He will explain the equipment they use and the fish they catch. This interesting talk lasts approx. 1 hour and costs $30 USD per person. This lecture requires reservations in order for the fisherman to catch the fish he will present in the study.

Call your tour company to schedule your ride. Reservations require pre-payment and this may be easier to arrange through your tour company. People who just show up at our ticketing office at the Mara River Bridge will be ticketed after the reserved passengers on a first-come, first-serve basis.


Sport Fishing

All of our sport fishing options are catch and release (you will not kill the fish)! We have fishing equipment that you can rent by the hour and use from shore as well as complete packages with a boat, guide and bait. We can also give lessons to beginners. We will be fishing on the Mara River and into Mara Bay. Our fishing boat (we do not use the airboat for sport fishing) can take 3 fishermen and we will board at the airboat loading site. We will not be going out onto Lake Victoria with these boats. Please make reservations ahead if you want for us to provide bait other than artificial lures.  The cost for the fishing boat and guide (for up to 3 fisherman-maximum) is $75 USD per hour.
