Answers to Questions Below

How many airboat tours will you provide daily?

The number will vary by the season and the current weather conditions but, we anticipate at least 2 every morning and several in the afternoon. Please call ahead for the times on the day in which you are interested.

How many passengers can you carry?

Our tour airboat (called Queen Mara) can carry more than 14 passengers and 2 crew but, we are limiting the total to that number to be able to provide optimum ride conditions for each guest.

What should we wear on the airboat?

The first morning tour may feel cool because of the wind chill factor so you should dress in layers. Remember that the tropical sun will burn skin even if the breeze feels cool so always wear lots of sunscreen lotion.

Is your tour safe?

Our pilots have been trained by an expert professional trainer from the USA and are very familiar with the conditions and animal life on the Mara. The American airboat is the best tour airboat that money can buy and is on a scheduled maintenance plan. Yes - We feel we can provide a safe ride but, nature is not always predictable. That is part of the adventure that we are offering.

If we miss the launch time of our tour what can we do while we wait for the next boat?

Maramanjaro

We are calling the mountain that overlooks our site “Maramanjaro” and will be able to provide guides and porters for the strenuous hike to the top. The view from the top is outstanding and the climb up and down takes 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours depending on how much time is taken at the top. The cost for the guided climbing tour depends on the number in your party and if we are to provide porters and provide food and beverages for a snack at the overlook at the top.

Sport Fishing

All of our sport fishing options are catch and release (you will not kill the fish)! We have fishing equipment that you can rent by the hour and use from shore as well as complete packages with a boat, guide and bait. We can also give lessons to beginners. We will be fishing on the Mara River and into Mara Bay. Our fishing boat (we do not use the airboat for sport fishing) can take 3 fishermen and we will board at the airboat loading site. We will not be going out onto Lake Victoria with these boats. Please make reservations ahead if you want for us to provide bait other than artificial lures. Call or e-mail for pricing.

How do I book reservations on the airboat?

The easiest way is to have your tour agency schedule the trip and have the cost included in the total package price you pay. They can then drop you off at our loading site at the proper time needed to make your trip - Long or Short - Whichever you choose.

If you want to book your own ride (the cost will be the same as above) phone us when you get to the area or e-mail us prior to arrival to learn the current ride times. With this contact also let us know if you want to climb Maramanjaro and/or experience fishing and if you want for us to arrange accommodations for that night. If you want reservations for a specific date and time then the ticket will need to be prepaid. We can send a voucher for these prepaid tickets back to you by e-mail. Otherwise it will be first-come, first-serve for each airboat tour that is not fully booked.

We have heard that Mara River Airboat Safari Ltd.is setting a portion if it's profits toward benefiting children in the Mara Region. Is that true?

While we are a for-profit company, YES we are intending to set aside a portion of all profits to help in a number of ways children in the Mara Region of Tanzania. Orphans, scholarships and children with special medical needs, etc.. One of the founders of our company - Christopher Ryoba Kangoye - is one of the founders of the Angel House Orphanage Home Tanzania Trust in Tarime.

If we take an afternoon airboat ride and then climb "Maramanjaro" toward sunset where can we stay that night?

If you are properly equipped for camping we have a campground available on our property at the airboat loading site for a nominal fee. We have restrooms and showers available for campers. We also have a tent that can be used for overnight stays that has 4 rooms and we will have beds for 10 total.. Our tent rooms will cost more than camping but still are relatively inexpensive. The cities of Musoma and Tarime both have clean places to stay for overnight. Tarime is aprox 40 minutes drive North (toward the Kenya border) and Musoma is 35 minutes South (toward the Serengeti's western gate). From our airboat loading site at the Kirumi Bridge over the Mara River it is only aprox. 1 hours drive over a good paved (tarred) road to the Western Gate of the Serengeti National Park. The Western Gate closes at 4 PM. We are sure your tour company can get you a good place to stay for the evening but, if you are traveling on your own and need help to make arrangements for your evening stay e-mail or phone us in advance.
